At 6:00 PM on March 5, 2012, The Boylan Bridge
Brewpub is sponsoring a wood
shop dinner and special instructional class in timber frame construction
using old
fashioned hand tools. The class will result in the construction of a timber
frame
pergola, 10’-6” x 11’-6”, similar to the ones on our outdoor deck. The
dinner and
class will be hosted in the 12,000 sq.ft. shop underneath the brewpub.
At the end
of the evening you can own the pergola. (See details below)
Here’s
what you get:
Upon arrival, you will receive three (3)
tickets that you can redeem for three (3) pints
of beer or glasses of wine any time during the evening. Servers will be
in attendance.
The class starts at 6:00 PM with layout of the
joinery. Andrew Leager will use hand
tools to cut the joints so that you can observe how they are done.
Note: We can’t
let any of the attendees use the tools since you will be consuming alcoholic
beverages.
Andrew will cut out the joinery with a hand
powered boring machine, slick chisels,
mallet, hand saws, and drawknife. The work is quiet enough for
attendees to ask
questions and converse with each other during the demonstration.
Dinner will be served around 7:30 PM with people
free to roam around in our professional
cabinetmaking shop to inspect the power equipment or sit at communal tables.
Servers
will circulate to replenish people’s drinks.
The menu:
Mixed salad of carrot, tomato, cucumber and greens, quarter roast chicken
with rosemary,
mashed redskin potatoes with garlic, green beans almandine, hot rolls
and butter.
The Beers:
Endless Summer Ale, Polar Bear Winter Beer, Bruno Bitter, Southbound Stout,
Boylan Brown Ale, Pullman Porter.
Cost of this event is $45 per person
and enrollment is limited to 40 people. Call the brewpub
at 803-8927 to register. Any attendee who wishes to purchase
the completed pergola may
do so. Once disassembled, the parts can be taken away for you to assemble
yourself, or
you can hire the experienced craftsmen of Special Projects, LLC to install
the pergola in
your yard complete with concrete footings.

After the food is cleared away we will have
an old fashioned barn raising, assembling the pergola
in the shop for the first time. This operation is particularly festive.
We should be wrapping up
around 9:30 PM, and then the pergola will be up for sale. There is no
obligation to consider the
pergola for purchase if you attend.
Price - F.O.B.-$2000 / Installed -$4500
